Invitation to “Witch Hunt and Capitalism’s After-party Picnic / Journey to the Otherworld in Search of Mother 2”
“girls” is a theater series written and produced by Erika Hiruta, exploring the theme of female metamorphosis. The cast consists of first-year students from the Professional College of Arts and Tourism (Toyooka City, Hyogo Prefecture), where Oriza Hirata serves as president. Previous productions include “It Hurts” (2022) and “MAMA” (2023). This time, they will stage two consecutive performances: “MAMA,” which premiered at the Kinosaki International Art Center in 2023, and the new work “Which Witch,” which underwent a work-in-progress presentation at the KYOTO EXPERIMENT 2025 Fringe Program. The combined running time for the two works is scheduled to be 2 hours. 'MAMA' depicts the lingering issues and myths surrounding modern mother-daughter relationships using the form of Noh theater. ‘Which Witch' dramatizes the metamorphosis of women in medieval European witch hunts and modern Japanese capitalist society in a picnic-style.
