A new legend is about to be born in Yokohama—The inaugural curtain of the brand-new cultural space The Cityi in Nakamuracho, Yokohama, will be lifted by ZAZI・ZOO, the most energetic and passionate theatre collective in Tokyo! Their latest work, ZAZI・ZOO Contemporary Counterfeit Theater, opens in an intimate venue with only 20–30 seats.This is not just a world premiere, but the beginning of a “legend” that starts together with the space itself.

Born in the late summer of 2022: a theatre collective and network with play at its very core. It began in a share house of a few Tama Art University students, who have kept the spirit alive ever since—switching activities as freely and joyfully as changing into the clothes they felt like wearing that day.
Today, it operates from two bases: Nippori in Tokyo and Yokohama.Actors, playwrights, directors, stage designers, dancers, choreographers, producers, costume makers, lighting designers, sound artists, NEETs, contemporary artists, university professors, band members, office workers, street performers, rappers, part-timers, filmmakers, designers, high school students, critics, magicians, painters, swimmers, DJs—its membership continues to expand without end.
ZAZI・ZOO has two faces: one as a project team that undertakes concrete creation, and another as a network that forges connections among artists. Yet the boundary between the two is vague, fluid, ever-changing. Each member is thus compelled to ask themselves: “Am I part of ZAZI・ZOO, or not?”
In other words, ZAZI・ZOO is a cultural seashore—brought into being precisely by this paradoxical form where the center and the periphery thrillingly intermingle.You are,
