In 2023, the Furutamaru Theater Company began developing a unique theatrical style called "Furutamaru Kodan," which fuses the traditional Japanese art of storytelling, Kodan, with contemporary drama. The distinctive rhythm and dramatic flair of Kodan infuse each performance with a dynamic live energy, earning widespread acclaim. This latest production is a dark comedy that explores life in a competitive society where happiness has become a measurable commodity, and everyone is forced to chase their own "happiness score." Three individuals, longing to transform themselves, are locked inside a mysterious facility, where they begin a self-transformation program guided by a peculiar self-help book. As they monitor each other's actions and document their progress, they find themselves both participants and observers. This dual perspective—part introspection, part surveillance—leads to a transformation that spirals in unexpected directions. This new Furutamaru Kodan production invites you to experience a fresh theatrical voice from Yokohama.
