Artist Information

Tonali-ya

A theater-making collective. Primarily creating works based on existing novels and plays, they emphasize the interplay between the physical body and spoken language. Their style is characterized by drawing distant words closer to reality and highlighting themes. In 2016, they received the Audience Award at the Toga Theater Competition.
Since 2020, they have produced numerous works employing theatrical methods beyond the boundaries of performing arts, such as spatial theater and installation pieces. In recent years, they have been exploring collective creative methods inspired by their own identities and ethnic or cultural sensibilities.

The members include Ulin Miula (playwright, director, representative), Taiki Nagase (actor, costume design), Ken Sugiyama (actor), and Kota Mifune (dancer). As a flexible collective, members active in diverse fields bring perspectives from their own disciplines, collaborating to form their artistic output.
