Quarterlife: DAWN
Keisuke Sugawara
In Motion with Our Ambiguous Selves — A Physical Response to the QLC
This performance explores the Quarter-life Crisis (QLC) — the psychological and social turning point often experienced in one's twenties and thirties — through the lens of fluctuating self-awareness. When passion and impulse alone are not enough to drive us forward, and experience and knowledge only serve to confuse our path, how do we embrace our “ambiguous selves”? Led by Berlin-based choreographer Keisuke Sugawara, thirteen performers embody and give form to inner conflicts, making them visible through the medium of the body.

Artist Information
- Keisuke Sugawara (Choreography)
Berlin-based performing artist and choreographer. Grounded in physicality, he creates perceptual experiences that utilize the entire space as a medium. Since relocating to Germany in 2017, he has explored themes of “self-establishment and relationships with others,” developing experimental works using visual scores. His practice seeks to reconstruct bodily expression through the intersection of diverse media. Sugawara has presented works across Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Lithuania, as well as in Japan, earning critical acclaim for their innovative approach.
- Novatron (Music)
An experimental sound duo that traverses silence and noise, order and chaos. They pursue sounds born from improvisation and freedom. Formed in Berlin in 2021, their work is rooted in improvisational music influenced by Ambient, Drone, Noise and Hardcore. Novatron released two albums from Germany's Kitchen Leg Records and one from Econore. Currently, guitarist Ryusui (Berlin) and drummer Nakamura (Japan) continue to expand their activities across their respective bases.
- Mizuki Suda (Scenography)
Scenographer based in Tokyo and Gunma. She studied architecture at university and later engaged in scenography research and internships in Germany. Under her guiding concept of “performative scenography,” she explores reciprocal spaces where the dynamism of performers transforms the environment, and the environment, in turn, responds—creating a stage space that changes improvisationally in real time.
- KruK (Orgnizer)
KruK (Konzeptraum und Künstler) is a collective of artists with diverse backgrounds, including choreographers, dancers, designers, musicians and lighting artists. Founded in February 2025, the group transcends the boundaries of performing arts, intersecting disciplines to explore new modes of perception. Its name, meaning “concept space and artists” in German, embodies a commitment to experimental and dialogical creation that seeks to open new possibilities of expression.
