We are delighted to welcome YPAM registrants from across Japan and abroad at the Kanagawa Prefectural Music Hall, one of the masterpieces of Japanese modernist architecture (designed by Kunio Maekawa) which celebrates its 70th anniversary this year.

The keynote performance that follows the reception is T for Time by Ho Tzu Nyen, which was presented at the exhibition Time & the Tiger at Singapore Art Museum in November 2023 and subsequently at Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo (A for Agents), Art Sonje Center (Time & the Cloud, Seoul), CCS Bard (New York) and more. At YPAM, it will be presented as a live performance.

The work uses an algorithm to automatically edit 42 fragments of moving images and text about time in real time, and explicates it into a double projection and multichannel audio. Music is by the saxophonist Soon Kim, who practices the free jazz pioneer Ornette Coleman's theory harmolodics in Asian contexts. The work, which is literally different every time you see it, will be presented this time with live improvised music instead of the recorded soundtrack.
